What to expect on the airport to Grand Baie drive
Grand Baie is on the north coast, on the opposite side of the island from the airport, which sits in the south-east near Plaine Magnien. That makes it one of the longest standard transfers we run. Most of the journey is on the motorway network that crosses the centre of the island, then on the coastal road through the villages of the north.
Once you land, clear immigration, collect your bags and walk out to the arrivals hall, where your driver is waiting with a name board. From there it is a door-to-door ride with no other stops, so you are usually in your room about 60 to 70 minutes after leaving the terminal in normal traffic.
If your flight lands in the early morning or the late afternoon, the stretch around Port Louis is where delays build up. If timing is critical, message us on WhatsApp with your flight details and we will advise on the best pick-up plan.
Staying in and around Grand Baie
Grand Baie is the busiest resort town in Mauritius. It is known for its bay full of moored boats, a strip of shops and restaurants close to the water, and a lively evening scene that is quieter in other parts of the island. Many visitors book day trips from here to the islets off the northern coast.
The neighbouring beaches are just as popular. Pereybère, Mont Choisy and Trou aux Biches are all within a short drive, and Cap Malheureux at the northern tip is known for its small red-roofed church.
